Adam Dunn Will Kill The Mets
Oh I can just hear Gary Cohen's voice right now. "And Pelfrey deals... fast ball hit in the air to deep right field. Back goes Church. Looking up at the wall and ITS OUTA HERE. Adam Dunn hits his 40th home run of the year for the sixth straight year. His eighth against the Mets and Nationals lead 1-0." I will then look to my friend who I split season tickets with at the brand new Citi Field (if it's still called that in September) and I will say what I said today, when the Nationals signed him to a two year contract. "Shoulda signed the bastard." You see Met fans it's these types of moves that always screw the Mets. They don't sign someone they should and it bites them. I know you might say, well Dunn has a career average under 250 and he strikes out almost as many times a season as his career average, but I always learned that winning baseball was driving in runs and getting on base, and Adam Dunn does that and will do it for the Washington Nationals. The Mets, for some reason (cough Bernie Maydoff) didn't sign Manny Ramirez, even when Jerry Manuel begged them. They didn't give Bobby Abreu the Five Million that a high batting average is worth these days, and they didn't show Dunn the money today. It bothers me. I hate when the Mets are cheap. I hate when they do something that I know will screw them (more so because he went to a division rival.) It's funny, I hate so many things, yet I love the team so much. That's the definition of being a Met fan though I think. Because at the end of the week spring training will start. And I will forget about Adam Dunn (until his first home run against New York) and I will truly believe that Fernando Tatis will hit .297 again and that Dan Murphy will drive the ball the other way with consistency like he did all September. Because that's what has to happen....until it doesn't. I promise I won't be this pessimistic all season, but I will be sometimes. Because if something is bad and you give it a positive spin every time, that makes you a Yankee Fan. And there is no shot in hell I am or will ever be one of those.
