F-Mart

Since the 2006 season, the name Fernando Martinez is one that has resonated through the Mets organization. His name is brought up in every trade discussion the Mets get involved in. Unfortunately, all of the potential and great things we have heard about him from his incredible bat speed, his 5 tool abilities and the comparisions to current ball players, has been accompanied by his inability to stay healthy.

F-Mart was signed by Omar Minaya at the age of 16 and is not even old enough to drink. His highest level of play has been AA Binghamton. There is so much potential there. The scouts rave about him and he is highly regarded on every minor league ranking list out there. The problem is he has yet to stay on the field enough to display his talent that we have heard so much about.

This is a pivotal year for Fernando. Even if he does not make the ball club out of spring training, which he probably won't; he must show signs that the hype is for real. 2 years ago, the possibility of a Beltran, Fernando Martinez, and Carlos Gomez outfield opening up Citi Field had fans salivating. A mixture of youth, speed and overall talent was something to look forward to. With Gomez gone via the Johan trade, an outfield consisting of Beltran in his prime and F-Mart as a blue chip prospect can still be a possibility, but is a long way away.

Hopefully, the platoon of Murphy and Tatis can be successful for the short term. But from this fan's perspective, it would be a great boost for the Mets to finally see 1 of their highly touted prospects develop in the system and make his way to the major leagues.

The last thing the Mets need are anymore Alex Ochoas, Alex Escobars, Jason Tyners, Greg Jeffries. You get the point..

  1. Greg Jeffries went on to have a solid career with the Royals and was it Cardinals or Phillies. All the other names you listed are correct though. Greg Jeffries didn't make it with the Mets because they didn't have a spot for him at the time, atleast according to sources on MLB network the other night.
