Jo-Rey in the 3 Hole?

According to Mets.com, Jerry Manuel has considered making significant changes to the Mets batting order. This would involve taking the electric Jose Reyes out of the lead off spot and slotting him in the 3 hole. In an effort to get Luis Castillo going, he would be leading off ahead of Carlos Beltran, who has flourished as a 2 hitter in the past.

I can see this being done in spring training, but looking at the big picture, I cannot see a guy with Reyes' speed, explosiveness, and leadoff ability as a 3 hitter. Its certainly thinking outside the box. When Reyes slumps, it trickles down the entire lineup so from that standpoint, the pressure would be off of him to create a spark. However, this changing of the order would mean that the Mets would be relying on a broken down 2nd baseman who struggles to hit the ball out of the infield. Even in his hayday, Castillo was a 2 hitter, not a leadoff man.

Spring training is a time for experimenting and trying out different things. So this is something that could be interesting to watch. But come opening day, I expect to see the order we've come to know and expect.
