I feel as if I am one of the few at this point that will not miss Shea or were not sad to see it go. Don't get me wrong, I grew up knowing only Shea Stadium. It wasn't till I was 15 that I visited any other ballparks. However, I feel that there are more painful memories in this stadium then there are positive memories. I figured I would use this time to state what my top 5 favorite moments at Shea Stadium were in no particular order.
1. Nostalgia Night vs. the Reds. Bobby Bonilla homered off of Rob Dibble in the bottom of the ninth to win the game. Dibble then ripped off his jersey as he entered the dugout in disgust. I was at this game.
2. Robin Ventura's grand slam single against the Braves in the NLCS
3. Game 7 of the 1986 World Series
4. Mike Piazza's HR off of Terry Mullholland in the 8th inning where the Mets scored I believe 10 runs in that inning.
5. Benny Agbayani's HR in extra innings against the Giants to put the Mets in the NLCS in 2000.
I'm hoping that I will have more positive memories at this new ball park. In the meanwhile, RIP Shea, thanks for the good memories and screw you for the bad ones.
